We all want to be blessed. We want to receive all that God has for us, all that he died on Calvary that we are to receive. Well, the blessing of the Lord comes in many ways. Giving is one way. You can’t beat God giving, no matter how you try. The more you give, the more He gives to you. Just keep on giving because it’s really true that you can’t beat God giving. No matter how you try.
Giving is obedience to God’s word. It’s not so much about money, but about obedience. Our giving is a response. We give because God first gave to us.
In II Corinthians 9:6 – 8, Paul reminds the Corinthians to fulfill the commitment that they had already made to an appeal to help the church in Jerusalem. The church in Jerusalem was having a tough time financially. Other churches including the churches in Macedonia, Thessalonica, and Philippi had responded generously even though they were not churches with the financial means. Paul explains that in the midst of their trials and tribulations, in the midst of the storms, in the midst of all that, they remembered that God was with them and would never leave them. Through that, came the joy of their relationship with God.
They had said that they would collect a financial gift to send to the church in Jerusalem so Paul was sending a few men ahead of him to make sure their gift was ready, so it would be a real gift and not look like people had to give under pressure at the last minute. He was holding them accountable to keep their promise, so that neither Paul nor the Corinthians would be embarrassed. The church in Corinth had not given what they were able to give, so Paul reminds them that they had potential to do better.
Remember, you should not give grudgingly, nor of necessity for God loveth a cheerful giver. Only that which is gladly given is recognized by God. We are to give out of our hearts, not our wallets and pocketbooks. And so, the first thing that you must do is give yourself to God and then giving money will come easily.
Our attitude is more important than the amount we give. We don’t have to be embarrassed if we can give only a small gift. God is concerned about how we give from the resources we have. God is the One who makes all grace abound toward you and provides you all things you need in life. All things beneficial for our lives come from God’s hands.
I want to remind you that the very air you breathe belongs to God. I want to remind you that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell within. Everything belongs to God. He holds the title and the deed to everything. Every morsel, every blade of grass, every bird that flies, everything in the world belongs to him.
